Please could the piece below be added to your website as it was left out of the Community page this week - it's a vital fundraiser for us - thanks.

I just want to commend the quick actions of a showman at Old Amersham Charter Fair last night (Monday 20th Sept). The heat from a spotlight set fire to a pair of shoes in the window of Chattertons clothes shop. The showman quickly put out the fire and averted near disaster before police or firecrew could react. If the fire had spread then a lot of homes and businesses could have been lost as most of the buildings are very old anfd have a lot of timber and most have co-joined loft spaces where fire could rapidly spread from building to building.
So well done that man!
Hi,
I can't seem to get Jack Abell e-mail address. I was wondering if you could send it to my e-mail address above. The church I am a memeber of feel my cousin and I should be interviewed about the new altar cloth we designed and made and about our up and coming charity work.
Thanks

I've lived in Amersham for 44 years (all my life) and I have very fond memories of the Round Table's Xmas float that trundles festively through the streets of our town. I recall listening out for the music as a child and waving furiously at Father Xmas from the windows of my parents house. I have kids now and tonight the Round Table team brought Santa to my door...or rather they didn't!!
What I did have at my door was the Amersham Round Table shaking a tin at me and I duly proffered my money...what I didn't have was Santa as my kids stood expectantly at the door. Seems 'Rudolf', AKA White Van driver, wasn't too adept at reversing with the sleigh and so he stopped, practically out of sight of my kids, at the top of the road, and then drove off, much to my frustration and to the even greater disappointment of my children.
Amersham Round Table, could I make a plea for next year...if you come and ask me for money, then keep your side of the bargain and make sure Father Xmas comes and waves at my kids from somewhere within sight of my front door. Oh and while I'm at it, perhaps you should invest in a new suit - from what I remember Father Christmas doesn't wear slip ons!
It's one little bit of magic that's still alive and letting my kids down tonight was pretty poor form...
Bah humbug...
Hello. I am considering moving to Prestwood. Could you please tell me what transport links there are to Great Missenden? Thanks very much
Liz
Would you please remove details of the badminton club for Great Missenden (listed by Emma in 2008) from your pages of clubs/societies. The club had to fold last year due to lack of interest.
We've just moved to Chesham and absolutely love it - but we've just heard a terrible rumour that the tube line is going to be closed. Does anyone know if this is true? We won't be able to carry on living here if we can't travel direct from central London!
Re A412 cameras on A40,Read with great interest your article in Advertiser. The whole area is very badly designed, it is very confussing with both 50 /30 miles per hour all within a space of a few yards. I also fail to see why the police are sitting in "speed control vans" in the same area to also record speed,& of course fine you. What a waste of our financial services, when surely cameras should be sufficient!! I too like one of your readers are certainly not a person to break the speed limit, but l too have been caught. However l along with my neighbours have tirelessly complained about people speeding along tilehouse way denham, to no avail.
Do you have an obituary of John Marsh, who died in July 2010, in Beaconsfield, Bucks? If so, couuld I get a copy? If not, do you have any suggestions on how I would get one? Thanks, Jackie Barnes
Why is it that the Communities pages in the newspaper are so incorrect? Most of the entries listed under Chalfont St Peter actually happen in other villages! For example, The Rock Coffee morning takes place in Chalfont St Giles. I have already sent 3 emails to receptionuxbridge@trinitysouth.co.uk and 1 letter to Reception at Gazette House, but several months down the line no effort has been made to correct your mistakes. Please publish some contact info that actually works!
Lawrence Poole is a friendly man and have talked to him on the phone once and emailed him several times. He is the one that made the Junior Bucks Stop HS2 Organization have more anti-HS2 online petition entries since he published our article in January 2011. Thank you!
Tesco GX-Giving the extra little help
furious Residents change their views over Tesco moving in.
7 months since the opening of the new Tesco superstore in Gerrads Cross, staff have had to battle their way to win residents. No one better than Sue Madden a local community champion employed by Tesco.
Sue has been gathering many of the staff to give up a few hours of their own time to help the community. Many activities included gardening, painting & decorating for the care homes.
Staff have also been collecting money for a Tesco charity of the year Alzheimer's, by taking part in many in-store activities.
Many local protesters who disagreed with the superstore moving in, have taken their words back, and say its now part of our community.
Just over 30 staff from Gerrard cross have signed up to take part in race for life which begins on the 24th July 2011 and will take part in High Wycombe, anyone wishing to take part can find out more information by visiting the store.

Do you have a lost/found section?
I wanted to advertise that our beautiful and beloved cat Bennie has been missing since 29th August. We desparately want him back and are offering a reward. We are afraid that someone has gone away or on holiday and he has got stuck in their house or garage. We've advertised on lamposts, and I've even gone door to door. Something in your paper is our last resort.
Destruction of boundary hedge at Holtspur School
Holtspur School is a vibrant community school where an incredible amount has been achieved by parents and the Headteacher to create a wonderful and safe environment for our children.
This is now threatened by the actions of London and Quadrant.
Having stated in their planning permission that they would be trimming the hedge on our Northern boundary, it now appears that they intend to grub this out in its entirety, leaving us only with remnants of a decrepit chain link fence to protect our property and children's safety.
Not only is this wanton and unnecessary destruction of a local habitat, but it will leave the school desperately exposed to vandalism and theft, a problem that we have only recently countered with the erection of new boundary fences in other areas after suffering a spate of thefts of lead from our roof.
Not only are London and Quadrant guilty of misleading all concerned by not stating their intent to remove this ancient hedgerow in their planning application, but also their lack of honesty has robbed us of the opportunity to plant other hedging on school land that could have established itself over the summer in preparation for this move.
The ideal scenario would be that the hedge remains intact, albeit trimmed as per the original application. However this situation is resolved, we cannot have a scenario where one entire boundary of the school is completely open. London and Quadrant must take responsibility for ensuring this does not happen.
