THE Olympic flame may have begun its journey around the UK but the torch still managed to make an appearance at a luxury hotel in Bucks.

To celebrate the flame's arrival, Stoke Park's chef, Chris Wheeler, set himself the challenge of recreating an edible version of the torch.

Mr Wheeler used a mould to bake a Victoria sponge in the shape of the torch before icing it with buttercream. The look was finished off when Chris sprayed the cake with edible gold.

Pupils from Stoke Poges School visited during the day to see the real torch.

Mr Wheeler said: "I was really proud to hold the torch and I think I can say I am the first UK chef to do so - quite something. Recreating a cake version of it was definitely an interesting challenge but I'm happy with the result."

The torch was recreated for the Golf Captain's Day tournament to raise money for Sportsaid.
