Students begin training for biggest ever Fun Run
THE TWO biggest schools in Beaconsfield are joining forces this year for a massive fancy dress fun run to raise thousands of pounds for school funds and Sports Relief.
For the last six years the five kilometre run round the Hall Barn Estate has been done by The Beacons field School but this year Beaconsfield High School is joining in to make it a much bigger event.
Major sponsorship has been secured and the event will be opened by Linford Christie, the most decorated British male athlete, and the only person in the world to have won gold in the 100m at the Olympics as well as the World, Commonwealth and European Championships.
It is hoped that 2000 students, plus teachers and even parents will run the race in fancy dress.

Acting head teacher of Beaconsfield High School Owain Johns, pictured on our front page tomorrow in a vampire outfit, is currently in training.
He said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for both schools to be working together again in a true community event. I'm still considering my costume for the day, and I'm taking suggestions as to how to make it as outlandish as possible."
Acting head teacher of The Beaconsfield School, Nigel Dudding, pictured dressed as Elvis, will unfortunately not be running as he is waiting for a knee operation. However, he will be cheering from the sidelines.
He said: "We are delighted to be able to join with the high school in this new and quite unique event. There is a strong tradition of collaboration between the two schools. However we have never before attempted anything on this scale. The students are particularly excited and I am sure there will be some friendly rivalry."
Advertiser reporter Polly Manser will be both running on the day, March 19th, and reporting on events, assisted by students from both schools.
She said: "From tomorrow we'll have a dedicated page on our website with all the news and gossip in the run up to the event, and of course extensive courage on the day.
"The head teachers have already talked about a 'friendly rivalry' and that's what we want to encourage.
"Whether you're a teacher who has never even run for a bus, or a pupil who is training to thrash the competition; whether you're running the race or simply walking it, we're inviting you to post a comment on our website. Just go to our home page and click on the link to Tesco Fun Run. Keep it friendly!"
Michael Kissman, for Tesco, which is currently building a store in Gerrards Cross, said: "Education and sports are two things which Tesco has a long association of supporting and we are pleased to be a part of this fund raising effort."
