Salt has arrived but it will not last long

SALT was finally delivered to Buckinghamshire County Council's road gritters yesterday nearly a month after it was ordered.

One hundred and fifty tons of rock salt were delivered yesterday, the council said today.
The council now says it has enough salt to last two days in the event of heavy snow, and longer if conditions improve.
However 150 tonnes is a small quantity compared to the several thousand tonnes the council normally keeps in stock. It was hoping for a delivery between Christmas and New year and it is having to ration the salt to make it last.
A spokeswoman said: "We have sufficient salt supplies to keep going in the south of the county for two weeks if we experience frost conditions only. If the area is hit by heavy snow, we have enough for two days' salting. Obviously, we'll have more than two days' supply if we experience light snow coverings."

We'd like to hear from you.
