Road surface will drop to minus nine rendering salt ineffective
Temperatures will drop so low tonight that salt on roads could become ineffective and the county council's highway department has warned motorists to take extra care
.
Air temperatures are expected to drop to minus eight meaning the road surface will drop to around minus nine.
A spokesman said: "Below minus seven the chemical reaction between the salt and the snow becomes less efficient, so it is a case of taking care. We are continuing to grit the roads now and will continue to do so overnight."
Twenty five road gritters salted all priority routes in Buckinghamshire three times last night at at 9am this morning all priority routes were "passable with care" the council said this morning.
It has drafted in a team of JCBs to literally dig snow off roads in hilly areas such as Brick Hill, Brill, Solbury, Dunton and Ashton Hill.
The council's 25 gritters have to cover 1,375km of priority network each. Salt - or rock salt - is spread at a rate of 40g per square metre before snow.
However despite the council's efforts complaints about the roads and pavements have been streaming into the newsdesk.
