Pothole budget could be halved
JUSTas the freezing weather opens up new potholes, Buckinghamshire County Council is consulting on a £678,000 cut on the budget to repair them.
The idea was discussed by councillors at a medium term planning meeting into the budget on Tuesday.
Val Letheren, cabinet member responsible for transport, is understood to be frustrated that she is unable to fix the roads properly and at the halving of her budget over three years.
A council spokesman said: "We have to save money just like everybody else."
However the council announced this week that it is nearly doubling the number of people repairing potholes for at least the next three weeks. With a total of 15 gangs, rather than nine, the county will be able to repair 2000 potholes per week.
They will be using permanent repair materials to provide a long-lasting replacement.
However, it will cost £45,000 a week to keep all 15 gangs operational.
Priority routes will be done first.
