Magistrate and probation officer to give interactive talk on their jobs
EVER wondered what happens to an offender after he or she has been found guilty and is taken from the dock? You don't have to break the law to find out.
In a one-off talk and workshop, a magistrate and a probation officer will be speaking about their jobs and getting the audience involved in a case study, in which they will be asked to decide whether the offender should to prison or receive a community sentence.
You will find out how decisions are arrived at in the courts and then have an opportunity to review your previous decision. There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions.
This evening is organised jointly by Beaconsfield Town Council and The Neighbourhood Action Group.
Councillor Deborah Sanders, of the town council and the NAG, said: "I am currently chairman of the sub-committee that looks at ways of preventing anti-social behaviour within our town. We are fortunate that this is less of a problem in Beaconsfield then in other local towns. I have worked closely with the various agencies who work in this area and I have been impressed with the commitment these people have to prevention of anti-social behaviour and the care of our young people. This evening will be an excellent opportunity for people to understand more about the probation service and consider what we as a community can do to help."
The free talk takes place on Feb 11 at 7.30pm to 9.30pm in the Fitzwilliam Centre, Curzon Road. Booking is essential. Telephone 01494 674634.
