County says salt will last at least two more days

THERE are enough salt supplies to last for two more days in the event of heavy snow, and longer if conditions improve, Buckinghamshire County Council announced today.

A spokeswoman said: "We have sufficient salt supplies to keep going in the south of the county for two weeks if we experience frost conditions only. If the area is hit by heavy snow, we have enough for two days' salting. Obviously, we'll have more than two days' supply if we experience light snow coverings."
Motorists are continuing to contact the newsdesk worried about slippery roads especially where they are steep.
Traffic was getting stuck in Addison Road, Chesham this morning, while saltbins in close by Nutkins Way were empty.
Lesley Carey is one of several people to contact the newsdesk today to complain about conditions.
He said: "I appreciate that the county is saying they are rapidly running out of salt in these extreme winter conditions. If the county's salt barns were filled with capacity, plus they have a reserve stockpile to be used in emergency conditions as written in their own article in the Buckinghamshire Times Winter 2009 edition, why are they still not able to get round and grit the worst affected roads?"
Last week BCC said it would run out of salt by Monday unless deliveries arrived, but it is not yet clear whether that has happened.
