Customers give new "posh Woolworths" the thumbs up

CUSTOMERS at Beaconsfield's new "posh Woolworths" gave it the thumbs up after the first two days of trading.

All Sorts opened in The Arcade, Maxwell Road, on Monday in the unit vacated by Domesco.
It is a joint venture by John Aldridge and Karl Ellis, who also run Shoe Be Do cobblers next door.
Customers who spoke to the Advertiser in the shop on Tuesday were unanimously positive about it.
Fiona Wilson, a full time mother from Beaconsfield, said: "I read about it in the Advertiser, and I came in to have a look out of curiosity. I think it's very good, particularly the hardware section.
"I always used to go to Lesley's in Gregories Road but since that closed I've had to go to Homebase in Loudwater and that's such a nuisance, it takes ages. Now I'll come here."
Pensioners Joseph and Wendy Quinlan, also from Beaconsfield, said: "The hardware section is very good. It will be very nice not to have to go to Uxbridge or Amersham or Wycombe for hardware."
Among the items for sale are moth balls, blackboard paint, L plates, teak oil, telephone extension leads, bone china mugs, party plates and invitations, and oil-filled radiators.
Mr Aldridge, partner, said he would quickly be ordering in other items requested by customers such as white paint, varnish, cotton thread and stainless steel pan cleaner. The latter was requested by an elderly couple who until now have travelled to High Wycombe by bus to get it.
He said: "We are very pleased with the number of people who have come in so far. People are saying it's about time there was a shop like this and that it's what Beaconsfield needs. We'll be getting more and more stock in, we can only go up from here.
"If everybody who comes in tells somebody else we're here it's not going to be long before word gets around."
Mr Aldridge and Mr Ellis are planning on stocking up on Christmas gifts such as towels and candles, and items for under £5 that children can buy for their parents, he said.
Several people have enquired about jobs, including a former employee of Woolworths which shut down on Maxwell Road earlier this year.
