Revealed: plan to build high speed rail hub at Iver
PROPOSALS to build a 12 platform high speed rail link at Iver to service Heathrow have already been put before South Bucks District Council.
The council was consulted last year about plans by the engineering firm Arup to build the hub as a pre-cursor to a high speed rail link to the North, the council's deputy leader Councillor Roger Reed said this week.
He said: "We strongly opposed that plan. It was very difficult to get detail on it, but my recollection was that it was in greenbelt land. Most of it was in South Bucks, with some of it in Hillingdon."
Councillor Reed said he was "concerned" that the preferred route for High Speed Two might turn out to be the existing Chiltern Line through Denham, Gerrards Cross and Beaconsfield.
"My concern is that because of the Arup proposal for a hub at Heathrow, they (the Government) may be looking at putting the high speed rail line along the Chiltern Line.
"Residents can be confident that South Bucks District Council will do everything to protect them and our countryside from this plan."
The Conservatives' plan for high speed rail announced earlier this year was based on Arup's report for a hub at Heathrow.
