New flats could be coming to Beaconsfield

A LARGE new apartment block could soon be built in Beaconsfield despite the concerns of residents and the parish council.
A planning application has been submitted to South Bucks District Council (SBDC) for a block of 14 apartments to be built on land in Station Road next to a number of other homes.

Beaconsfield Town Council has objected to the plans on the grounds of over development, and letters of objection have also been sent by residents, who are concerned that the building is too large and that trees in the area will be lost.
There are also fears that the development could lead to a loss of privacy for existing residents, but despite this, the plan has been recommended for approval by SBDC.
The report submitted to the council about the plan said: "It is considered that the building would appear appropriate for the plot on which it would be sited, as a well as appearing acceptable within the existing street.
"It should be noted that the recent Sunrise elderly person's development in the road is a building of substantial size and height, and this proposal would be significantly smaller than that building.
"As such, overall, it is not considered that the proposed building would result in an over development of the site."
The approval of the plan is under the condition that first floor windows in the north and south side of the building be fitted with obscure glass to prevent overlooking and loss of privacy for people in the homes nearby.
The application has been amended from one that was given planning permission by the council in May 2007, and now includes three separate car port structures as well as a small increase in the width of the building.
The plans were set to be discussed at a meeting of SBDC's planning committee last night (Wednesday).
