Kilimanjaro trek for Beaconsfield man

Posted by Jack Abell on Jul 31, 09 05:13 PM in Beaconsfield News

AN INTREPID Beaconsfield resident is set to climb one of the world's most famous mountains in memory of his father.
Andrew Harman, will traverse Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa, the world's highest free standing mountain.

He has chosen to take on the challenge after losing his father John, who died of stomach cancer in 2007, following a two and a half year battle with the illness.
During his time fighting the disease, Mr Harman's family relied upon the Marie Curie Cancer Care charity, and because of this, he has now decided to climb the mountain to raise funds for the group.
He said: "The time has now come for me to give something back to these people and to a worthwhile cause who are always struggling to get the financial support they need.
"I am slightly apprehensive but, as always, I am up for a challenge and motivated to raise money for this good cause.
"I am being supported by my good friend Karl Brown, who is giving up his time to do the walk with me and without his support I am sure it would be twice as hard to achieve this goal."
He plans on raising between £15,000 and £20,000 as his thank you to the charity and money can be donated to him by visiting www.justgiving.com/Andrew-Harman0.
Roe Wainwright, the nurse who supported Mr Harman's father throughout his illness, said: "John was a very positive man and always considering others, he would be so proud of Andy taking on this challenge."
