Controversial children's centre plans ditched
PLANS for a controversial new children's centre have been scrapped, to the delight of residents.
Buckinghamshire County Council (BCC) had wanted to build a new centre in the grounds of Holtspur School as part of the Government's Sure Start scheme, which would have run a range of activities every week day from 8am to 6pm.
However, nearby residents were angry at the plans, and were concerned that the new development would cause a massive increase in parking and traffic problems around the school.
Neighbours were consulted on their views for the plans, and this week were informed by the council that the idea has been scrapped.
Denise Paskov, of nearby Beacon Close, said: "I am absolutely over the moon about it. I received an email telling me that the plans have been dropped and I couldn't believe it when I read it.
"It's really good news. I don't know whether they will have a re-think and try again, but for the moment I'm happy.
"I could not see how the area could cope with this. There is already a lot of traffic here because of the school, and this would have made things a nightmare. I think it's great that there are going to be more children's centres built nearby, but it wouldn't have worked here, so it's for the best that the plans have been dropped."
The new building would not have added any extra parking to the area, as BCC were hopeful that users would walk or cycle to get there.
Had the centre, been built it would have been located less than four metres from Mrs Paskov's home.
She added: "I could not see how it could work without adding parking, as it is unrealistic to think that people would walk or cycle. I would not be surprised if this is why they gave up with the idea."

FANTASTIC reporting Mr.Abell....8AM - 6AM eh? Are you sure you are not confusing the times with the Ministry of Sound?? Or are you ALSO as factually in-accurate as your predecessor(s) Burns and Manser??!?!?
Do you ever think you might have misread it, you self satisfied cretin? Have you really got nothing better to do than sit at a computer trying to find tiny errors in online news reports? Why not stop moaning at things that don't matter and do something worthwhile with your time? Who knows, you might even make some friends, then you'll have less free time on your hands and you won't have to spend your time making moronic comments on here.
Dear Mike Northway aka Advertiser employee,
I can assure you that I did not mis-read it. You are openly admitting that there was an error, however small, and in my day in the News industry, this simply would not have happened. You see, we took pride in our work then....unlike today, where "anything goes", and when brought to attention, the childish temper tantrum surfaces, as you have demonstrated in your little rant above. Bless!
Whilst such shoddy work continues to appear in the Public domain, I will continue to highlight the mistakes. If that is too much for you to accept, might I suggest that you perhaps change your career? Maybe work in a Garden centre or something, but put a SMILE on it, you feckless cretin! :)
No need t repeat the same thing time and again, but I do share your frustration at the lack of Grammatical skills demonstrated in so called "modern journalism".
My other local paper, the Bucks Free Press is even WORSE for this, with nearly every story reported containing a basic spelling mistake or grammatical error.
We used to have very high standards in this country not so very long ago; perhaps this lackadaisical use of English is as a result of 12 years of Labour's dumbing down Policy, whereby anyone can obtain the relevant GCSE merely for being able to say their name without the usual "innit" phrase?
Sort it out Bucks Advertiser - it's NOT acceptable!
In the greater scheme of things, think to yourself, does this this really matter. Does a small mistake really make much difference? The article still gets to the point. You should think yourself lucky that spelling and gramatical errors are the main things on your mind! As I know alot more people have more things to do than slag off the local press.
You may think that it is OK; that is your opinion, which I do NOT share!
Standards have been allowed to slip more than far enough in this Country over the last 15 years or so, without people such as yourself condoning such poor writing skills, particularly if they have chosen to forge a career out of it. A If no-one bothers to pull the local Press up on such ridiculous errors, then what hope is there? nd for the record, David, "grammatical" is spelt with a double 'M'..... or have your standards ALSO slipped?!!
