Ancient trees see garage application refused
A family with a front drive large enough to park several cars was has been refused planning permission to build a garage because it might kill two 99 year old Cyprus trees.
Councillors made the unanimous decision after being shown a photograph of a spacious parking area at the front of the detached house on Sandleswood End, Beaconsfield.
Owner Nigel Tees had sought permission to cut down four Yew trees to make way for a new garage because the existing garage was too small for a modern car.
He complained that at the moment he has "no alternative but to make room for parking on my driveway when I have visitors."
But as soon as he made enquiries about building a new garage South Bucks District Council put tree preservation orders on two Cyprus trees nearby, to the delight of neighbours Malcolm and Kathryn Gillings who told the council that "it would be a sorrowful day if one should be removed for the sake of development."
Councillors agreed unanimously that the house did not need a garage due to ample parking on its front drive.
