Double Beaconsfield shop closure

Posted by Greg Burns on Feb 25, 09 01:54 PM in Beaconsfield News

Bex-Nicloas.jpgTwo more shops in Beaconsfield have closed bringing the total shop closures since the banking meltdown in September to four.
Nicolas, a french owned chain of wine merchants with 80 branches in the UK, has closed its Burkes Parade branch in the New Town.
Spokesman Aurelia Gauges said the business had closed seven branches altogether "due to a lack of profitability despite restructuring."

Bex-Tots-2-Teenagers.jpgColliers, which is letting the shop, was unable to say before we went to press whether a new tenant has been signed, but a shop worker at another shop in the parade said: "Lots of people have been to have a look around but we don't know what it's going to be."
And Tots 2 Teenagers in Warwick Road in the New Town, which sold children's furniture, has also closed.
Last month the affects of the credit crunch hit home in Beaconsfield when Bakers Oven closed on Station Road. The shop had supplied officer workers with pastries for more than 30 years.
Also in January, Martin's Newsagents on Penn Road moved into a smaller unit, leaving a large unit empty, after talks between it and cafe Nero to run a joint venture fizzled out.
And at the start of the month Woolworths closed in Maxwell Road after the chain went into administration.
However, the town's newest shop, which opened in November, is apparently doing well.
The Heritage Window Company in Gregories Road makes and fits slim line aluminum windows to replace crickle windows in period properties.
New business manager Oliver Dolan said: "We've had lots of leads and fitted lots of windows especially in Jordans. Our clients tend to have plenty of money. Plus they can't sell their houses so they are deciding to improve them instead."

We'd like to hear from you.

Nicola's is no great loss. It always surprised me why it opened in the first place when it's sister shop (Threshers) was/is less than 75 yards away.
