February 2009 Archives

Two nurses from a hospital in Uganda are in Seer Green this weekend to meet some of the people who have raised money for their community.
Both are sisters at Kisiizi Hospital for which many people involved with Holy Trinity and Seer Green Church and Seer Green School have raised money over several years.

A jumble sale takes place on Saturday at Seeleys House, a day care centre for adults with learning disabilities.
Friends of Seeleys House have organised it to raise funds for activities at the Bucks County Council funded centre on Campbell Drive, Knotty Green.
The jumble sale is from 10am to 1pm. All welcome.

A charity shop is appealing to the public to think of them when sorting out unwanted items at home.
Iain Rennie Hospice at Home needs more stock at its shop in The Arcade, Beaconsfield, because fewer people are donating.
Lesley Blencowe, head of retail and trading, said: " Recently we have begun to notice that the amount and quality of donations is falling. We are particularly in need of good quality clothing, and would ask anyone doing a spring-clean to bear us in mind."
Clothing, jewellery and household items are wanted. Profits are used to fund a free nursing service for the terminally ill.

Bex-Bus-Shelters.jpgBus shelters throughout Beaconsfield and Holtspur could be torn down leaving passengers to stand and brave the elements while they wait.
Clear Channel, which owns all the bus shelters, wants to take them down because of a massive downturn in advertising which used to pay for the upkeep and turn in a profit.
The company has said it will hand them over to Beaconsfield Town Council or Bucks County Council but neither can afford to take them on and unless a solution is found they'll be pulled down by April.

An 84 year old Beaconsfield man who drove through a 50 mile per hour speed limit in the town three times in a week has learned his lesson the hard way.
John Coles of Maxwell Place was fined £80 for each offence and ordered to play £120 in costs. Including a victim surcharge, he has had to shell out £375 and has received nine points on his licence.

Seer Green parish hall needs another person to help with the cleaning once a month by joining a weekly rota.
If you're willing to clean the hall, which is used for a variety of community events including a fundraising pancake cafe this week, please contact Muriel Ward on 01494 675 024.

Garages in Beaconsfield have reported a massive increase in cars coming in for repairs to tyres, wheel rims and suspension since the snow thawed on February 10.
Motorists are wracking up huge bills as they drive into potholes which, at night, are virtually impossible to see.

An explosion and a golf club resulted in firefighters at Beaconsfield Fire Station being presented with a cheque for £3,000.
Station manager Keith Williams was given the money by Susan Jackson of Flackwell Heath Golf Club last Wednesday for The Fire Fighters Charity which helps serving and retired firefighters who've been injured during their jobs.

Bex-Nicloas.jpgTwo more shops in Beaconsfield have closed bringing the total shop closures since the banking meltdown in September to four.
Nicolas, a french owned chain of wine merchants with 80 branches in the UK, has closed its Burkes Parade branch in the New Town.
Spokesman Aurelia Gauges said the business had closed seven branches altogether "due to a lack of profitability despite restructuring."
