New Holtspur club for disabled children

Posted by Greg Burns on Jan 13, 09 02:18 PM in Beaconsfield News

A new club for children with disabilities will open at the Beacon Centre in Holtspur on January 23.
It will provide seven to 11 year olds with a variety of skills activities such as throwing, catching and balance to complement adapted sports such as boccia, kurling, basketball and table cricket.

The club will be linked to a similar club in Burnham which is already running which caters for 12 to 17 year olds with disabilities.
Councillor Shorne Tilbey, portfolio holder for community at South Bucks District Council said: "The importance of providing clubs such as this in local communities cannot be overstated. The Burnham club receives excellent feedback from members which is also reflected in the high attendance figures seen each week."
The new club will run from 5-6pm and cost £2 per session. For more information telephone 01895 837 348.

Whilst this is indeed wonderful news, we mustn't forget the rest of the Youth in Holtspur. By this I mean the 13-17 year olds who have nothing to do, and nowhere to go in the evenings, frequently ending up congregating in large gangs and occasionally committing Anti-Social behaviour.

We need to encourage and engage them, and I would rather have hoped that something similar would be set up for them. Perhaps the Community could help by contributing towards setting up a type of Youth Club? These youngsters are our future and we must not forget it.
