Tears for outgoing Jordans teacher
There were tears and laughter at Jordans School on Wednesday, December 17 when staff and pupils said goodbye to one of their most popular teachers.
Judith Galdies, who has been a classroom teacher and special needs co-ordinator at the school for 15 years, put away her chalk and switched off her whiteboard for the last time, before attending a special farewell assembly organised in her honour.
Mrs Galdies, who admits to being 'at least at retirement age', was then treated to a surprise lunch and tea with pupils, parents, and teachers, both past and present.
She knew that her husband George would be among the guests, but she had an additional surprise when she saw her two grown-up daughters, Natalie and Corinna, there too.
"I have mixed feelings about retirement," said Mrs Galdies. "I have been privileged to work with wonderful children and colleagues over the years. I will miss them all terribly, probably more than I realise."
Headteacher Pat Farmer said: "Judith is one of those special people who makes an impression on everybody. She is wonderfully kind and thoughtful and considers everybody's needs. As well as being our special educational needs co-ordinator, she had responsibility for RE and she organised sports day every year. It was her real passion and she was really good at it."
Angela Van den Berghe, chair of the school governors, said: "Judith Galdies has been a very special and inspirational teacher. Jordans School has been very lucky to have her all these years."
Mrs Galdies, who lives in Tylers Green, said that she and her husband are planning to visit South Africa in January.
