December 2008 Archives
While most of us were tucking into a hearty Christmas lunch kind hearted nurses Margaret Ottaway and Jackie Allen worked through Christmas.
Both are nurses with Iain Rennie Hospice at Home, a charity which provides palliative care across South Bucks to enable people with terminal illnesses to spend their last days and weeks in their own homes.
It is more a case of The Twelve Displays than the Twelve Days of Christmas at Mary and All Saints Church in Beaconsfield.
The church has been beautifully and painstakingly decorated, as it is every Christmas, but this time the team of 50 or so who do it have produced something different.
Each display represents a Christmas carol, from The Holly and The Ivy to While Shepherds Watched, and not only foliage, but delicately made figures of people and animals have been used to create them.
A driver of a car which spiralled out of control and ended up on its roof this morning morning (Dec 30) escaped with his life and relatively minor injuries.
This is a list of planning applications registered with South Bucks District Council during the week ended 31st October 2008.
Any person wishing to make representations should do so in writing to Development Control by 26th November 2008 either by email to planning@southbucks.gov.uk, by letter or via 'Planning Online' on the website.
WOOLWORTHS in Beaconsfield will close it's doors for the last time on Monday, January 5.
Administrators at Woolworths announced on Monday (22/12) the closing dates for all of the 807 stores across the county. All stores will close by January 5.
After 28 successful years supporting the community, the Rotary Club of Jordans and District has recruited its first woman Rotarian.
The move is part of a pioneering new membership structure which has been specially designed to boost recruitment among younger people.
There were tears and laughter at Jordans School on Wednesday, December 17 when staff and pupils said goodbye to one of their most popular teachers.
Judith Galdies, who has been a classroom teacher and special needs co-ordinator at the school for 15 years, put away her chalk and switched off her whiteboard for the last time, before attending a special farewell assembly organised in her honour.
Fiftieth anniversary celebrations at St Mary and All Saints School in Beaconsfield will end today (19/12) with a service at the parish church.
Almost 18 months of festivities have marked the half century since the school moved to Maxwell Road, after 86 years at its previous location next to St Mary and All Saints Church.
Butlers Court Primary School in Beaconsfield finished off its term with a Christmas fair.
Each class at the school in Wattleton Road had a theme and had to create a stall last Wednesday.
Parents also made items to sell and there was face painting, lucky dip and face painting.
Although the money raised has not yet been finalised, it will go into the school fund.
The manager of Woolworths in Beaconsfield has said the store is not closing, leading to hopes that the Maxwell Road branch is among 300 stores being looked at by a potential buyer.
Dharmesh Jetwani would not make any further comment when the Advertiser visited the Maxwell Road store on Tuesday last week.
However on Wednesday last week administrators Deloitte announced that a potential buyer or buyers for Woolworths had come forward over the weekend and that 300 of the store are under offer.
Neville Carne said that a phased closure of the 807 Woolworth stores was planned on December 27, 30, January 2 and January 5, but that a deal was sealed some of them would stay open.
