Seer Green sports area project
An ambitious plan to build a brand new Seer Green multi-purpose sports area in Seer could get off the ground next week.
Residents in the village are hoping to get funding for an outdoor complex on the recreation ground that could cost up to £100,000.
The matter is to be discussed by Seer Green Parish Council on Wednesday after which a formal committee could be set up to push the plan forward.
The idea been put forward by Steve Patel, owner of Lambs Newsagent on School Lane who is a councillor on Chiltern District Council, and John Webb, Police Community Support Officer for the area.
Mr Patel said: "There are lots of children in the village but they only have facilities for football or cricket."
He said he has spoken to consultants and he believes it is possible to raise enough money for two multi purpose courts for tennis, football and basketball along with an outdoor gym and a skate board ramp.
David Matthews of Seer Green Parish Council gave the plan a cautious welcome.
But he warned it could come to fruition only if grants were secured and if residents and Chiltern District Council were prepared to allow floodlights round the sports area which would be in green belt land.
He said it would take at least 18 months to secure funding which could come from the district and county councils and the National Lottery among others and that getting it would be a "torturous process."
He said: "The next stage is for the parish council to give its blessing to the idea before we can start talking to the planners."
Residents of the village will be fully consulted before any plans are put forward, he said.
