New cop to police Beaconsfield streets

Bex-PC-Iain-Torbet.jpgA policeman who has made a huge effort to improve relationships with youngsters in the Farnhams is moving from the area.
PC Iain Torbet, of Thames Valley Police, has been relocated to Beaconsfield having worked in the Farnham Common and Farnham Royal since January this year.

In that time he has been instrumental in setting up a youth club in the area in order to try and get youngsters off the streets and has been involved in organising a football match between police and youths in order to build relationships between the two groups.
He was also responsible for starting the Farnham Neighbourhood Action Group (NAG), which has been running since the early part of this year.
He will be replaced by PC Roberta Rivers, who has worked alongside him in the area.
He said: "I have enjoyed my time in the Farnhams since January this year. Our schemes have all helped reduce levels of anti-social behaviour as well as anti-social behaviour related crimes.
"As a neighbourhood team, we are proud to have played our part in forming the youth club, which is opening this month. I wish Roberta all the best in her new role and feel happy she will build on the work we have done over the last year."
William Foulds, who was appointed as chairman of the NAG when it started up, said: "This is a great shame for the Farnhams. PC Torbet is one of the best police officers we have ever had and we will be sad to see him go. I have been trying to start up a youth club here for many years but have been unable to, and in just under a year PC Torbet has succeeded. He has done so much for this community and he will be very sadly missed by everyone here."

We'd like to hear from you.

Ahhh now THIS particular Policeman would be the one who attempted to Cycle across the Zebra Crossing in the Old Town yesterday morning (Vauxhall Vectra, approx 11 AM), and proceeded to give a filthy look in my mirror when I refused to stop. Let me assure you Sonny Jim that had I more time on my hands than I clearly have tonight, I would have stopped and given you a piece of my mind!

Next time you feel the need to set a bad example, can I mindfully point out the following legislation that YOU contravened?!

"It is not illegal to cycle across a Zebra crossing if there is shared-use to either side, but it is contrary to Rule 64 of the Highway Code which states that cyclists should dismount and walk across Zebra crossings. Breach of the highway code could be used as evidence of an offence"

You of ALL people should know this!
