Flags could cause distraction to motorists

A car dealership's plan to erect eight metre high flag poles outside their Beaconsfield store has been slammed by councillors as unsafe.
At the latest Beaconsfield Town Council meeting last Thursday its planning committee objected to Mercedes Benz UK showroom, in Station Road, putting the flag poles up.

Councillor Alan Hardie said: "There is no way we should be allowing this to happen. There are already massive flags outside the garage and to have more there could cause a hazard to drivers.
"The junction with Grove Road is already dangerous and we should not be encouraging any further distractions to drivers."
Councillor Geoff Grover said: "If this was a retail park or industrial estate then they would be fine but to have something like this in the New Town and in the middle of a busy high street is not acceptable.
The application will be considered by South Bucks District Council in the next few weeks.
