PC Robert Mellor said: "During the incident a motorcyclist is alleged to have overtaken a car before laying his bike on the road and walking up to the driver's door, opening it and punching the driver several times in the face. He then road off in the direction of the A40."
Police are asking for anyone who saw a motorbike driving aggressively in the town at the time or who know who the rider is to call them on 0845 8 505 505, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
