Young climber reaches dizzy heights
Nine-year-old Drew Fielding from Beaconsfield has his sights set on high achievements.
Drew has been training in The Climb, at The Chiltern Pools, Amersham, for the past four years and recently entered a round of the BMC (British Mountaineering Climbing) Youth Climbing Series, a competition for youngsters aged between seven and 15 years old. The competition consisted of three rounds held at three different venues, one of which was at The Climb in Amersham.
Drew was delighted to be placed second overall in the south east region after these three rounds, which enabled him to attend the national finals held in Edinburgh on June 28. Drew and another participant achieved an equal score after completing all of the required routes, winning Drew the title of joint National champion in the secen-nine year old category for 2008.
Nexus Climb Manager, Will Holbrook said, "Drew has been a climber in our Junior Club for four years and has developed massively over this period. Over the past two years he has been competing in the BMC youth climbing series and we are absolutely delighted that he has achieved his long term goal of winning at the national finals."
